Human Rights Negotiation Workshop

Dear CEU Community,

Human RightS Initiative is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the one–day intensive workshop on Human Rights Negotiation by Kara Irwin at CEU on Saturday, 27 January 2018 from 10 AM – 6 PM.

We all start learning to negotiate in early childhood (“one more cookie!”), but equally we could all use help honing our negotiation skills in a professional context. Human rights activists are often called upon to work with governments or with those in opposition to their goals, and good negotiation skills can be critical to achieving a successful outcome for the activists’ constituents.

The upcoming workshop will explore negotiation theory in transactional and dispute resolution contexts, focusing on issues relevant to human rights activism, and participants will put their developing skills into practice in the context of a business and human rights case study.

Kara Irwin is a US and UK qualified lawyer who has taught negotiation skills to lawyers and law and human rights students in the UK, Hungary, Laos, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone and who has experience using those skills in legal pro bono and human rights practice.

The participation in the training does not require a background in law or thorough knowledge about human rights.

CEU students, junior staff, CEU alumni, staff from Budapest–based NGOs, students from other universities, etc.

The workshop is free of charge for all applicants and all participants will receive a certificate of completion.
